The All-New Hyundai i30 Fastback is the latest addition to the i30 range, available across Europe by the beginning of 2018. The new body type reflects Hyundai's design language while giving it a sophisticated twist. This classic and elegant coupe brings a unique and new approach to the popular C-segment, underlining Hyundai's commitment to innovation and customer choice.
Sophisticated silhouette and charismatic proportions
The Hyundai i30 Fastback is characterised by its strong stance and sporty, elongated lines. The sophisticated silhouette features dynamic sports coupe proportions created by an elegant sloping roofline and a long bonnet. This special silhouette is achieved with a lowered roof and a tight cabin sitting on a bold body.
On the front, the bonnet is emphasised and appears wider thanks to the reduced height of the Cascading Grille. Additionally, the lower horizontal air intake below the grille gives the i30 Fastback a charismatic front. Full LED Daytime Running Lights and headlamps with a premium dark bezel round off the Hyundai i30 Fastback's visual impact at the front.
The slim cabin is emphasised by wide wheel arches giving the car a strong stance. The wheel design was specially developed to perfectly match the i30 Fastback's silhouette: unique 18-inch alloy wheels are available, as well as specific 17-inch alloy wheels. Using classic automotive design codes, the roof has been lowered by 25 millimetres compared with the i30 five-door, enhancing the car's wide stance on the road, improving aerodynamics and creating a dramatic impression.
Tapering towards the rear, the cabin has a sleek shape, inspired by the shape of a teardrop. The generously arched rear spoiler is integrated into the tailgate and continues to the rear lights. The rear of the cabin is additionally supported by strong shoulders, which makes the Hyundai i30 Fastback look capable and assertive.
Dividing and sculpting the surfaces creates a vivid play of light and shadow, adding drama to the car. The C-pillar and the rear windscreen are inspired by the premium segment and designed with refined shapes, reinforcing the car's tapered belt line and its sense of dynamic, strong forward motion.
Customers can choose from eleven exterior colours for the i30 Fastback: three pearl choices - Phantom Black, Platinum Silver, Stargazing Blue, six metallic choices - Ara Blue, Clean Slate, Fiery Red, Micron Gray, Moon Rock, White Sand, and two solid choices - Engine Red and Polar White. Great driving dynamics
The driving dynamics of the Hyundai i30 line-up are rigorously tested and refined by engineers at Hyundai Motor's European Testing Centre at the famous Nürburgring "Nordschleife" circuit.
The Hyundai i30 Fastback reveals some significant differences compared with the other body types of the i30 range. By comparison to the i30 five-door version, the chassis of the Hyundai i30 Fastback has been lowered by 5 mm and the stiffness of the suspension has been increased by 15%. This provides a more dynamic and more agile driving experience while maintaining a high level of comfort.
Thanks to the lowered roof and chassis leading to an overall height of 1,425 mm, the i30 Fastback is 30 mm lower than the five-door body type, emphasising its elegant and dynamic proportions. With an elongated silhouette, the car has an overall length of 4,455 mm - 115 mm longer than the five-door.
Class-leading standard safety package
Featuring the latest Hyundai SmartSense active safety and driving assistance technology, the i30 Fastback democratises technology as the other members of the i30 range. Fulfilling the highest European safety standards, the Hyundai i30 Fastback received the maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP. With Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist and Lane Keeping Assist always on board, the i30 Fastback offers best-in-class standard active safety.
The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) fitted in the Hyundai i30 Fastback operates in three stages using camera sensors. First, it warns the driver visually and audibly. In a second step, it controls the brake according to the collision danger stage, and in a third stage applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or to minimise damage if a collision is unavoidable. The optional pedestrian recognition uses front radar and avoids or mitigates the consequences of an impact with a pedestrian.
The Driver Attention Warning (DAW) with a driver protection system monitors driving patterns in order to detect reckless or fatigued driving to prevent potential accidents.
Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC w/ S&G) keeps a constant speed and distance from the vehicle in front by automatically accelerating and braking up to 180 km/h. If the traffic comes to a halt, the Stop & Go system applies the brakes until the car comes to a standstill and accelerates to the desired speed as soon as the road is clear.
The rear corners are monitored by the Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW). If another vehicle is detected, a visual alert appears in the exterior mirrors.
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW) system reduces the risk of collision with approaching traffic when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility by alerting the driver both visually and audibly.
The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) senses the car's position and alerts the driver about unsafe movements at speeds over 60 km/h. By audibly and visually warning the driver before inducing corrective steering, it guides the driver back to a safe position.
Road speed signs are immediately recognised by the Intelligent Speed Limit Warning (ISLW), which displays the speed limit in real time. The navigation system display and the TFT cluster both show the information.
A High Beam Assist (HBA) detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles ahead in the same lane at night and changes to low-beam lights as appropriate, thereby reducing blinding effects on other drivers. HBA automatically re-activates the high beams and therefore maximises the driver's range of vision as soon as no vehicles are detected.

Mated to the engines is either the six-speed manual transmission (6MT) or Hyundai's efficient and direct-responding seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT).
The 1.0 T-GDI - Three-Cylinder Dynamism
The 1.0 T-GDI engine, developed by the Namyang Technical Centre in Korea in collaboration with the European Technical Centre in Germany, with 120 PS and 171 Nm provides a perfect combination of dynamism and efficiency with CO2 output as low as 120 g/km (combined).
A turbocharger with an electronically-controlled waste-gate actuator improves fuel efficiency by lowering pumping losses as well as improving throttle response and low-end torque. The unit features a six-hole GDI injector, pressured to a higher-than-average 200 bar, securing a clean combustion and improving fuel economy and emissions.
To keep the engine unit as small as possible, the exhaust manifold is integrated in the cylinder head and can therefore be cooled efficiently using the cylinder head water-cooling system. These efforts result in faster warm-up of the catalyst and ultimately in improved real-world fuel consumption and emissions.
The 1.0 T-GDI is offered with the 6MT.
The 1.4 T-GDI - Efficient and Fun to Drive
The 1,353 cc four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivers 140 PS and 242 Nm of torque with CO2 emissions as low as 134-125 g/km.
The engine incorporates a high-pressure single-scroll turbocharger integrated in the exhaust manifold to improve operational efficiency. The relocated and re-engineered turbo means throttle response time and low-end torque have improved. The new design injects fuel directly inside the cylinder, improving combustion rates for better power and fuel efficiency.
The new, turbocharged 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol engine is offered with the 6MT or the 7DCT, which gives a choice of fully automatic operation or manual gear changes.
The Seven-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission
Hyundai Motor introduced its first seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in 2015, combining the benefits of automated and manual transmissions. The 7DCT provides an improvement in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of up to 20 % compared to a conventional six-gear automated transmission, while acceleration performance could be increased by up to 10 %.
The 7DCT consists of two dry clutches and an actuator for each clutch. Engine power is transferred independently into the odd and even gear train to always be ready to shift into the next gear without any torque interruption. For optimised responsiveness the electric motor-driven actuator is applied, while external dampers improve the noise, vibration and harshness during driving.
In combination with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission the Hyundai i30 Fastback offers three drive modes: Eco, Normal and Sport. In sport mode there is a different shift pattern holding gears longer before shifting, the steering provides a sporty feel and the throttle response is adapted.
Ride and Handling
The i30 range has been developed and tested in Europe performing accelerated durability tests and dynamic testing in the most demanding surroundings in the world, including the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife to ensure that the high expectations of European customers are met.
The development engineers have defined the characteristics of the i30 Fastback; compared to the i30 Five-door the stiffness of the suspension has been increased by 15 per cent and the chassis is lowered by 5 mm. The reduced roll angle decreases the Hyundai i30 Fastback's understeering which is resulting in a more agile and more fun-to-drive overall ride and handling.
The new body type of the i30 Fastback provides a dynamic and compliant driving experience with high levels of ride comfort. Contributing to this is the standard multi-link rear suspension for all versions with a dual lower arm and the performance-oriented shock absorbers.
Strong and Lightweight Body
Hyundai Motor is the only car manufacturer to make its own steel for the production of its vehicles globally with great benefits for the i30 Fastback featuring a strong and light body that enhances the dynamic performance and increases passenger safety.

Hyundai SmartSense: Highest Active Safety
The Hyundai i30 Fastback features Hyundai SmartSense active safety and driving assistance technologies to comply with the highest European safety standards: Front Collision-Avoidance Assist (standard), Driver Attention Warning (standard), Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Rear CrossTraffic Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist (standard), Intelligent Speed Limit Warning and High Beam Assist (standard). Offering the best standard safety package in the C-segment, the i30 Fastback also received the maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with pedestrian detection
The i30 is fitted with FCA, an advanced active safety feature that alerts drivers to emergency situations, braking autonomously if required. Using front radar and camera sensors, FCA operates in three stages. Initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it controls the brake according to the collision danger stage, and applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or minimise damage when a collision is unavoidable. The optional radar-based pedestrian detection is activated when a vehicle or pedestrian is sensed in front of the car, operating at speeds of 10 km/h or above.
Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
The i30 features the Driver Attention Warning, a driver protection feature which helps monitor driving patterns in order to detect reckless or fatigued driving and prevent potential accidents. The system analyses various vehicle signals such as steering angle, steering torque, vehicle's position in the lane and driving time. In addition, the driver can adjust a user-selectable setting for the system's sensitivity. If the system detects inattentive driving patterns an audible sound and message on the instrument display panel will alert the driver.
Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC w/ S&G)
Using front radar sensors, SCC with Stop & Go keeps a constant speed and distance from the vehicle ahead by automatically accelerating and braking. If the traffic comes to a halt, the Stop & Go system applies the brake until the car comes to a stand still and accelerates to the desired speed as soon as the road is clear. If the vehicle stops for longer than three seconds the driver has to activate the system again by the steering wheel controls or by briefly pressing the accelerator pedal. The system operates from 0 to 180 km/h.
Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW)
The Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) with Lane Change Assist monitors the rear corners and, if another vehicle is detected, a visual alert appears on the exterior mirrors. If the driver then activates the indicators an audible signal is emitted. This also applies for a lane change situation when another vehicle is detected.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW)
Using the BCW sensors, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning system reduces the risk of collision with approaching traffic when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility. Using a radar to scan a 180-degree area behind the vehicle for approaching cross-traffic, RCCW alerts the driver visually and acoustically.
Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
The Lane Keeping Assist alerts the driver in unsafe movements at over 60 km/h by sensing the car's position. The Lane Departure Warning (LDW) sounds an alarm before the car moves over white, gray and blue lines as well as Bott's dots on the road, while the LKA warns the driver acoustically and visually before inducing corrective steering to guide the driver back to a safe position.
Intelligent Speed Limit Warning (ISLW)
The Intelligent Speed Limit Warning uses the front camera and information from the navigation system to identify road speed signs and display the speed limit in real time. The information is displayed both in the navigation system display as well as in the TFT cluster.
High Beam Assist (HBA)
When switched to automatic mode, High Beam Assist detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles in the same lane ahead at night and changes to low-beam as appropriate, reducing blinding effects on other drivers. Whenever there are no vehicles detected, the system automatically re-activates the high beams, maximising the driver's range of vision.
Highest Passive Safety
Featuring a high percentage of Advanced High Strength Steel, the Hyundai i30 Fastback benefits from high rigidity and a high impact energy absorption and minimised distortion to protect passengers in the event of a collision.
Around the interior of the Hyundai i30 Fastback, a total of seven airbags are installed, including a knee airbag for the driver. Beside the six standard airbags (two front airbags, two side airbags and two curtain airbags from first to second row protecting both driver and passengers), the knee airbag is an additional safety feature for the driver in the event of a front collision.
